I realize this isn't what you're asking for, but check out: http://wellsguitars.com/Articles/Guitar_Holder.htm I also wanted to buy a trojy a few months ago, but ran across a reference to the above URL in the archives here (posted by JJ, I think). I built one in an hour or so and its worked fine for sanding, binding routing, and now, finishing. Still need to make the safety net part, though... From what I can tell, quite a number of others on this forum also use a similar vise. Good luck, Eric |

We used Trojies in the guitar building course I took with Sergei de Jonge. They are certainly very useful - a good way to securely hold the guitar which provides excellent access to the sides. Useful for sanding and scraping the sides, and also for french polishing sides - they really shine in that application. They can also hold guitar bodies vertically, of course, for working on either end, such as when making the end graft. It would be easy enough to build one, but I would suggest considering working with vacuum as an alternative. Check out Charles Fox's article in the latest American Lutherie. |
